Types of Joining Systems: Ultrasonic Welding
Friday, April 21, 2017

In terms of types of welding, ultrasonic is fairly new to the scene.  Developed in the 1960s, ultrasonic welding transmits high-frequency vibrations through plastic parts to create frictional heat at the joint surface.  The heat causes the parts to melt at the surface and fuse together, which means bolts, nails, and soldering materials aren’t required.

As opposed to conventional methods, ultrasonic welding it a much quicker alternative, making it well suited to high volume applications, such as the appliance manufacturing industry.  Bonds from ultrasonic welding are also very durable and dry quickly.

It’s important to understand the welding characteristics of thermoplastics before purchasing an ultrasonic welding machine, as there are several factors that impact the type of machine best suited to your application.

AMS manufactures several types of plastic joining systems that are easily customized to suit the exact parts being welded.  We would be glad to consult with you on the best machine, and materials, for your purposes.  Contact us today to begin working with one of our engineers on your next automated machine.

At AMS we are all about standard products that exceed your expectations and provide maximum value.
